The Carola Medal was founded on 17 September 1892 by King Albert of Saxony on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the Albert Association.
The decoration was awarded in gold, silver, or bronze, on the proposal of Queen Carola, to members of the Albert Association and to all persons who had rendered distinguished service in the field of charitable aid to others, in war or in peace.
The medals were struck at the Muldenhütten Mint.
