The Order of Merit November 5, 1811, Heroes of the Independence of the Homeland [Orden al Mérito 5 de Noviembre 1811, Próceres de la Independencia Patria] is the highest distinction awarded by the Legislative Assembly of El Salvador to men and women of Salvadoran or foreign nationality who distinguish themselves through “eminent services rendered to the Homeland.” Its name refers to the First Independence Movement in San Salvador, which took place on November 5, 1811, and was carried out by the country’s renowned heroes.
