The Order of the Liberator of the Slaves José Simeón Cañas [Orden del Libertador de los Esclavos José Simeón Cañas] is a distinction awarded by the Republic of El Salvador to heads of state or Salvadoran or foreign citizens who have distinguished themselves through significant acts of a humanitarian and social, scientific, educational, or philanthropic nature; or as a token of the Nation’s gratitude (Article 3 of the Founding Decree).
