The Fridolin Kavčič Medal for Scientific and Research Achievements (Medalja za znanstveno-raziskovalne dosežke Fridolin Kavčič) is a decoration (medal) awarded by the Ministry of Defence of the Republic of Slovenia (or the minister) “to members of the Slovenian Armed Forces, ministry employees and individuals for successfully completed multidisciplinary development projects, scientific and professional contributions in the field of military skills, or the successful introduction of new content and methods of work into the organization and operation of the Slovenian Armed Forces.”
The medal is named after Fridolin Kaučič (or Kavčič), who is regarded as the first biographer of Slovenian military personnel (or officers); in 1866 he published articles in Ljubljanski zvon about 133 renowned Slovenian officers in the Austro-Hungarian armed forces.
The medal itself has three classes: gold, silver and bronze.
