King Erik XIV of Sweden established a Salvator Order during his reign (1560–1568). The chain of this order was probably worn only by the king himself, and this oldest of the Swedish chivalric orders did not outlive its founder.
Because the chain was worn only by the king and the order had no statutes, it is difficult to speak of a medieval order, which was, after all, a community of knights. It is therefore not considered a fully-fledged chivalric order. The chain of the Order of the Seraphim contains elements from the chain of the Salvator Order.
