The Pilot's Badge (Flugzeugführerabzeichen) was an aviator's badge of the Luftwaffe of the German Wehrmacht, instituted on 14 March 1935 by Hermann Göring, Commander-in-Chief of the Luftwaffe.
The badge could be awarded upon successful completion of flight training and weapons school. It was awarded to all pilots as confirmation of training and was therefore not a decoration for military service.
It could also be awarded to people who had trained as pilots before its introduction, if they served as pilots in the Luftwaffe, and, after the Anschluss of Austria in 1938, also to members of the Austrian Air Force who were incorporated into the German Luftwaffe.
According to the Law on Titles, Orders and Decorations of 26 July 1957, wearing the badge in the Federal Republic of Germany is permitted only without National Socialist emblems.
