The Order of the Liberators of Venezuela (Orden Libertadores y Libertadoras de Venezuela) is a Venezuelan distinction established on April 6, 2010, during the presidency of Hugo Chávez, by a law published in Extraordinary Official Gazette No. 5,990 on July 29, 2010. It is intended to distinguish Venezuelans, foreigners, and public or private institutions that, through their merits and services, have stood out in the constant struggle and inexhaustible perseverance in favor of liberation causes and the environment, the self-determination of peoples, and the consolidation of a multipolar, multiethnic, and multicultural world, in contribution to and for the benefit of the homeland or humanity, although, broadly speaking, today it is commemorated almost exclusively for supporters of the Venezuelan government.
This order revives the spirit of the Order of the Liberators, instituted by the Liberator Simón Bolívar in 1813 to honor the talents and virtues of Venezuelan and Granadan military personnel who took part in the Admirable Campaign.
