The Karl-Olga Medal [Karl-Olga-Medaille] was instituted by Queen Olga of Württemberg, with the approval of her husband Charles I, on 16 June 1889 to celebrate the 25th anniversary of King Charles’s reign. The decoration was awarded to men and women who had rendered distinguished service in caring for wounded and sick soldiers as part of the German Red Cross. At the Queen’s request, it was always awarded by the King of Württemberg.
