The Order of Merit of Colonel Guillermo Fergusson (Spanish: Orden al Mérito coronel Guillermo Fergusson) is an honorary order of Colombia. It was established by Decree No. 3805 of December 23, 1985, to honor military and civilian personnel belonging to the Military Household serving the head of state.
The Military Household of the President of the Republic of Colombia was created by Decree No. 1842 of October 16, 1931, with the motto “Honor unto death,” to defend the President of the Republic, the Vice President, and their families, in coordination with the Military Forces. The institution’s origins date back to armies in combat during the time of the Bourbon Royal Household in France. It is responsible for carrying out ceremonial and protocol functions at government events and diplomatic activities held at the seat of the Presidency, or in places where the head of state performs official duties, both in the country and abroad.
