The Palestine War Medal 1948 (نوط حرب فلسطين 1948) is an Iraqi military medal issued during the rule of Abd al-Karim Qasim, after the 14 July Revolution of 1958, although the reason for its issuance was the distinguished participation of the Iraqi Army in the 1948 Palestine War and, to a much lesser extent, support for Egypt during the 1956 Suez Crisis, during the period of royal rule in Iraq. It was awarded to Iraqi Army officers who participated in this war and showed heroism and courage in it. Under the Law on Decorations and Medals of 2012, this medal was not abolished, unlike some other Iraqi medals. It is inherited by the holder’s sons or their descendants, who are entitled to wear it on national occasions, provided that the person to whom it was awarded actually participated in the 1948 war in Palestine.
