The Memorial Medal of Gabrielė Petkevičaitė-Bitė “Serve Lithuania” (Gabrielės Petkevičaitės-Bitės atminimo medalis „Tarnaukite Lietuvai“) is an award established in 2011 by the Board of the Seimas of Lithuania. It honours the lifelong work of the writer and public figure Gabrielė Petkevičaitė-Bitė, commemorating the 150th anniversary of her birth, and aims to promote civic engagement, national self-awareness and cultural awareness in society. It is awarded to citizens of Lithuania and foreign countries, communities and legal entities.
The medal “Serve Lithuania” was designed by sculptor Alfridas Pajuodis. The formal award ceremony for laureates takes place annually on 30 March, Gabrielė Petkevičaitė-Bitė’s birthday, in Panevėžys. The Speaker of the Seimas or a person appointed by the Speaker presents the medal and its certificate.
No more than four awards are given each year for each of the following activities:
nurturing the traditions of parliamentarism and promoting civic engagement and democracy;
philanthropic activity;
promoting a culture of volunteering in Lithuania;
timely national journalism.
In 2019, 16 awards were presented.
