The Peninsular War Cross was established by King John VI on 28 June 1816 to distinguish officers who took part in the campaigns of the Peninsular War from 1809 to 1814. It was made in silver for those who had taken part in up to three campaigns, and in gold for those who had taken part in four, five, or six campaigns.
