The Luftwaffe Sea Rescue Badge was instituted on 27 November 1944 by Hermann Göring, Commander-in-Chief of the Luftwaffe.
It could be awarded to the seafaring personnel of sea-rescue vessels, air traffic control ships, supply ships, and other specialist ships of the Luftwaffe in recognition of distinguished service on operations. The number of awards is unknown.
