The Order of Merit for the People (Орден заслуга за народ; Macedonian: Орден заслуги за народ, Slovenian: Red zaslug za ljudstvo) was a decoration of the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia in two classes.
The Order was established by the Presidency of the Anti-Fascist Council for the National Liberation of Yugoslavia on 9 June 1945, and the Medal of Merit for the People was established by the same decision. It was awarded for exceptional merits earned in the struggle against the enemy for the liberation of the country; for merits in building socialism and socialist self-management relations; for organizing and strengthening the country’s total popular defense, security, and independence; and for merits in the fields of the economy, science, and culture. In addition to individuals, the Order could also be awarded to military units or institutions, and it was worn on the right side of the chest.
