The Defence Medal for the Fallen in Service [Forsvarets Medalje for Faldne i tjeneste] is a Danish military medal instituted in 2010. The medal replaced the former Medal for the Fallen and Wounded in Service. The medal may be awarded to people who have fallen as a result of weapons fire, in combat, or in terrorist attacks. It may be awarded to military personnel and civilians, both Danish citizens and foreign nationals.
The round medal is made of gilt silver and bears the three lions and nine hearts from the national coat of arms. On the reverse are the words “Fallen in Service” and a year, within an oak-leaf wreath. The medal is suspended from a white cross ribbon with a broad red stripe on each side.
