The Defence Medal for Meritorious Service [Forsvarets Medalje for Fortjenstfuld Indsats] is a Danish medal that may be awarded to military and civilian employees of the Danish Defence, as well as foreigners who have performed meritorious service for the Danish Defence. The medal was instituted on 27 November 1991.
The Chief of Defence awards the medal, which is made of silver and is round. Its obverse bears the three lions and nine hearts from Denmark’s national coat of arms, while the place and year are engraved on the reverse. The medal is attached to a red cross ribbon with two narrow white stripes on each side. For further awards, an oak leaf of silver is attached the second time and an oak leaf of gold the third time.
