Forsvarets Medalje for International Tjeneste 1948-2009

The Danish Defence Medal for International Service 1948–2009 (Forsvarets Medalje for International Tjeneste 1948-2009) was instituted in 2015 in recognition of civilian and military personnel in the Danish Defence who served on an international mission during the period 1948–2009. A total of approximately 30,000 people were eligible for the medal, which was awarded during the period 2015–2016.

The background to the medal was the lack of Danish recognition for personnel deployed on international missions from 1948 until 2009, when the Defence Medal for International Service was instituted.

The medal is round, made of silver-plated brass, and features the three crowned lions of the national coat of arms accompanied by nine hearts. The inscription “DEPLOYED FOR DENMARK 1948–2009” is engraved on the reverse of the medal. The medal's cross ribbon is red with three broad white stripes.
