The Danish Defence Medal for International Service in Bronze (Forsvarets Medalje for International Tjeneste i Bronze) was instituted on 2 September 2020 in recognition of civilian and military personnel in the Danish Defence who have made a commendable contribution abroad. The medal is awarded by the Chief of Defence. The medal may also be awarded to other Danes and foreigners who have made a commendable international contribution on behalf of Denmark.
The medal supplements the already established Defence Medal for International Service, which is awarded for service on an international mission. Whether one medal or the other is awarded depends on the task being performed. The Defence Command wanted a better way to recognize soldiers deployed for service outside Denmark without taking part in an actual international operation. This could, for example, include personnel deployed as part of an international force, assigned to an internationally organized readiness force, or serving in support of these, so that they can operate under the best possible conditions.
The medal is round, made of bronze, and features the three crowned lions of the national coat of arms and nine hearts.
