The Danish Defence Medal for Bravery (Forsvarets Medalje for Tapperhed) is a medal that may be awarded to civilian and military personnel for actions during combat or terrorist activity. The medal was instituted on 30 October 1996 and was first awarded on 13 May 1997. The medal is awarded as personal property and therefore does not have to be returned after the recipient's death. The medal may also be awarded posthumously. If the medal is awarded more than once, a silver oak leaf is added for the second award, while a gold oak leaf is added for the third.
