The Commemorative Medal for the Golden Wedding Anniversary of King Christian IX and Queen Louise of Denmark was established in 1892 to commemorate the 50th wedding anniversary of King Christian IX of Denmark and Queen Louise, a German princess. The design is based on a drawing by the Queen; the name Schmahlfeld is cited as the jeweler.
Three variants were produced.
Gilt silver
The oval gilt-silver decoration is partly enamelled in red and white. It is worn on a sky-blue ribbon on the left breast or on a bow made of the same ribbon on the left shoulder.
Within a golden laurel wreath are intertwined gold-edged white “L” and gold-edged red “C” initials. The years 1842 and 1892 and the date “26 Mai” are on the laurel wreath. The Danish crown is mounted as a suspension. The reverse is plain. A total of 98 were made, of which 71 were awarded. It weighs 11.2 grams and is 45 millimetres high and 28 millimetres wide.
Bronze
The bronze decoration is identical to the gilt-silver one, but the royal initials are blackened. It is worn on a sky-blue ribbon on the left breast or on a bow made of the same ribbon on the left shoulder.
A total of 22 were made, of which 20 were awarded.
