The Danish Commemorative Medal for King Christian IX (Danish: Kong Christian den Niendes Mindemedalje) was instituted on 13 February 1907 by King Frederik VIII of Denmark. This was done by an oral order to the Chief of Staff of the Danish king, Colonel P.M. Herbst.
Christian IX had died on 29 January 1907.
The 13 medals were awarded to the chief of staff, his predecessors, and the adjutants and aides-de-camp who had served under the late King Christian IX. These were:
1 major general
3 rear admirals
3 colonels
3 lieutenant colonels
3 captains
Elsewhere, it is stated that the decoration was awarded to 52 guardsmen who were on guard when the king died.
