The Medal Commemorating 9 April 1940 (Danish: “9 april 1940 Minnesmedalje”) is a Danish distinction.
King Christian X of Denmark established the medal on July 17, 1940, to commemorate the brief Danish resistance to the German invasion on April 9, 1940. Although Denmark had been able to offer little or no resistance to the German invasion (codenamed “Operation Weserübung”), the medal was awarded to all Danish military personnel who served that day in the units defending the country.
The medal is worn on a red ribbon with a white border and white side stripes.
