The Commemorative Medal for the Centenary of the Birth of King Christian IX (Danish: Mindemedaillen i Anledning af Hundredeårsdagen for Kong Christian den Niendes Fødsel) was instituted on March 11, 1918. This Danish distinction was awarded as a commemorative medal to members of the personal household of the late King Christian IX of Denmark. The medal was awarded to 43 members of the royal family and 172 members of the household.
The medal was presented on a red ribbon with a woven white cross. A silver royal crown, through which the ring passes, is fitted as a link between the ribbon, folded into a pentagon, and the medal. A silver clasp bearing the dates “1818 8 April 1918” was worn on the ribbon.
Some sources state that, in addition to the red ribbon with the woven white cross customary in Denmark, a blue-white-blue ribbon was also used for this medal. At an auction in 2010, a 31-millimeter-high medal on a plain blue-white-blue ribbon was auctioned at Thomas Høiland. The round silver medal was attached to the ribbon by a simple loop. There is also a loop at the top of the ribbon. The royal crown is absent.
