The Medal for Humanitarian Benevolence (Muistomitali inhimillisestä auliudesta; Pro Benignitate Humana, PBH) is a commemorative medal awarded in the Nordic countries for work carried out for Finland during wartime. President of the Republic C. G. E. Mannerheim approved the presidential decree concerning the award of the commemorative medal on 1 June 1945. The first commemorative medals were awarded to recipients in Sweden, Denmark and the United States.
The recipients had taken in Finnish war children or carried out work in support of Finland during or after the Winter War and the Continuation War. 4,200 medals were awarded in Sweden and 800 in Finland. The awarding of the medal to Finnish citizens ended in 1952, and some medals were still awarded abroad the following year. President of the Republic Mauno Koivisto exceptionally awarded six Pro Benignitate Humana medals in 1986 and one more medal in 1988. The medals awarded to Veikko and Lahja Hursti for their long-term humanitarian aid work attracted particular attention.
