The Star of Valor (Bintang Sakti) is a mark of honor awarded by the Government of the Republic of Indonesia to honor the courage and steadfast determination of a soldier who goes beyond the call of duty in military operations. This award was officially established in 1958. The star ranks one level below the Star of Mahaputera and has no classes.
The Star of Valor is awarded to those who extraordinarily demonstrate courage, steadfast determination, and heroism beyond the call of duty in military operations. The star may also be awarded to civilians who meet these requirements. Recipients of this star are entitled to be buried in a heroes’ cemetery. As the person who awards the honor, the President of Indonesia is automatically its holder.
