Star of the Upholder of Democracy

The Democracy Upholder Star (Bintang Penegak Demokrasi) is an honorary decoration awarded by the Government of the Republic of Indonesia to recognize a person's service in upholding the principles of democracy in Indonesia. The star ranks immediately below the Mahaputera Star.

The star is awarded to those who have rendered great service in upholding the principles of popular sovereignty, nationhood, statehood, and the development of national law. As the award-giver, the President of Indonesia automatically holds the first class of this decoration, the “Main Democracy Upholder Star” (Bintang Penegak Demokrasi Utama). Like the President, the Vice President of Indonesia also automatically holds the first class of this decoration.
